Statement by Prime Minister Robert Golob regarding the findings of the extraordinary expert oversight at Novo mesto General Hospital
SLOVENIA, December 5 - The findings of the extraordinary expert oversight at Novo mesto General Hospital reveal an organised depletion in a manner that is not only financially damaging, but also grossly exploits the vulnerability and trust that patients place in the public healthcare system.
I strongly condemn the morally reprehensible practices of individuals who tarnish the reputation of doctors, physicians and healthcare professionals who carry out their duties with dedication and a high degree of integrity.
The adoption of the amendment to the Health Services Act will finally put an end to such practices. Firstly, this Act clearly distinguishes between public and private healthcare, putting an end to harmful dual practices that have weakened the public healthcare system for decades. Secondly, it ensures greater transparency regarding where doctors perform their work, which was crucial for exposing this perverse practice.
The amendment to the Health Services Act paves the way for a fair, transparent and, above all, ethical healthcare system, where patients come first rather than the profits of individuals.
The public health system must serve the common good, not the greed of the few who profit at the expense of vulnerable patients."
